Finding inspiration in classic portraiture and cinema, London based portrait, fashion and commercial photographer Christianah Ebenezer’s images are replete with rich colour and texture.

Born in Nigeria, Christianah spent her early years in Lagos, before moving to join her immediate family in London. Here, she found visual inspiration in film, music videos and personal family portraiture. Drawing many of her formative references from the sensitive combination of composition and mood found in cinematography – a quality that is noticeably present in her own work today.

Christianah’s practice is dedicated to presenting her subject in their truest essence, whilst additionally using her work as a powerful platform for visibility of subjects of colour. By utilising various techniques, and soft, subdued light, she aims “to highlight not only the range of beauty that we hold as individuals, but also the various ways in which we can be depicted”.

She attributes her Christian faith as the main reason her visual gift has been able to transcend globally. This path has brought about many transformative experiences like shooting for 10 Men magazine in Nigeria – where Christianah returned home for the first time since childhood and was able to both showcase and collaborate with exceptional local talent as well as spending meaningful time with extended family.

Christianah has been named both a British Fashion Council New Wave Creative, and as a Forbes 30 Under 30 Arts & Culture Leader. Her work was included as part of exhibition ‘The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion’, curated by Antwaun Sargent, and debuting at London’s Saatchi Gallery in 2022.

More recently, in 2024, two of Christianah’s portraits were unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery in partnership with Chanel.
